"Hindu Genocide - The Largest Ongoing holocaust in the history of mankind - Part 2"
Mir Mannu - The Butcher of Lahore
Those who always create a rift between Hindus and Sikhs must read history and biographies of Guru Maharaj to understand that sword of tyrants never showed any mercy based on the self-ascribed theological identities.
1. Winds of the Time
Mughals had two points of administration in Punjab, Sarhind and Lahore. Mughals who ruled from Delhi appointed two governors at Sarhind and Lahore, under these governors there were many Nawabs, like Malerkotla, Faridkot, Bahawalpur, etc,. Under the Nawabs there were many Parganahs i.e. Zamindars, or landlords who would hold many villages as their land, on these villages' farmers, ironsmith, carpenters, etc. work and were taxed 67% of their income.
2. The Tyrant of Persia and Galughara
Nadir Shah attacked Bharat in 1739. He looted and murdered every one on his way to Delhi and ransacked North India. He deafted Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah in the battle of Karnal.
The battle lasted for less than three hours and the Mughal emperor, Muhammad Shah surrendered. Both the rulers now entered Delhi on 12 March 1739 and Delhi was handed over to Nadir Shah, along with all its treasures. He occupied Shah Jahan's royal suite in the Red Fort and held a great durbar in the capital the next day.
However, as soon as Nadir Shah ascended the throne of Delhi, riots sparked off in the streets of Delhi in which a number of Persian soldiers were killed. When, Nadir Shah saw the bodies of Persian soldiers in the streets, he was disturbed and enraged. He ordered a general massacre of Delhi, which was also known as the infamous “Qatal-e-am”. During this massacre, the citizens of Delhi were looted and raided. Many locations of Delhi like Dariba Kalan, Fatehpuri, Chandni Chowk, Hauz Kazi, Faiz Bazar, Lahori, Johri Bazar, Ajmeri and Kabuli gates, were soon covered with corpses of both Hindus and Muslims. There were many who resorted to killing themselves and their wives and children instead of submitting to the Persians. Nadir Shah slaughtered everyone in the city for 6 hours in a day and killed lakhs of people in the city.
The whole city of Delhi was destroyed, looted, plundered and ruined by the army of Nadir Shah. Nadir Shah took with him the Peacock throne built by Shah Jahan. He also took the legendary “Koh-i-noor” diamond. Besides this, he plundered gold worth 10 million rupees, 600 million rupees worth of jewellery, and coins worth 6 million rupees. Historian said that his overall collection after invading India, was 700 million rupees worth, including 7000 craftsmen, 200 carpenters, 100 stone-cutters and thousands of elephants, horses and camels, which he took with him to Persia.
After the return of Nadir Shah to Persia, titular Mughal governor of Lahore Abdus Samad Khan was appointed as the governor of Multan and his son Zakarya Khan was appointed the Governor of Lahore. Zakarya Khan was a tyrant and religious fanatic. To stamp his authority he hobnobbed with Persians. When Nadir Shah had captured him, Nadir Shah asked him, how shall he treat him.
Zakarya Khan replied, "If you are soldier cut my head, if you are a trader, you can trade with me, if you are a king i can be your obedient servant!!
Nadir Shah bemused by his reply spared his life. Zakarya khan started lynching Sikh populace to subdue them.
He started offering reward of a blanket for cutting hairs of a Sikh, 10 Rupees for information about a Sikh and 50 rupees for cutting the head of a Sikh. He made destroying sikh homes and fields lawful through his decree!!
He died in 1745 and his eldest Son Yahya Khan became new Governor of Lahore. Known for his perrenial hatred for Sikhs and non muslims, he was supported by his Wazir Lakhpat Rai in his administrative and military affairs.
During one of the skirmishes with Sarbati Khals army of Sikhs, brother of Lakhpat Rai was killed. Furious Lakhpat Rai attacked Sikh khalsa army with full might, massacring most of them and captured 3000 of them. These 3000 prisoners were taken to Lahore and beheaded in public for setting an example. The place of beheading later on became known as Shahid Ganj.
This massacre is known as 1st Gallughara (Holocaust of Sikhs) of Sikhs. The date was 10th March 1746.
3. The Chess board of power
1n 1746 Shah Nawaz the yonger Brother of Zakarya Khan who assumed Governorship of Multan after the demise of his father Abdus Samad Khan, revolted and attacked Lahore. He imprisoned his elder brother Yahya Khan and sacked his devilish Wazir Lakhpat Rai.
Shah Nawaz could not hold Lahore for as Yahya khan escaped from the prison to reach Delhi and pleaded with his father in law Mughal Wazir Kamruddin for help in retaining Lahore. When Shah Nawaz came to know about this, he made a blunder of decision to checkmate Delhi Mughal throne by inviting Afgan Warlord Ahamad Shah Abdali to attack Mughal empire!!
This was to be proved a thorn in flesh for Shah Nawaz!!
4. The Rise of Butcher
To counter Ahamad Shah Abdali, Wajir Kamaruddin led Mughal army and met Abdali in the plains of Punjab near Hoshiarpur. When Kamarudin died in the war, his son Mir Mannu assumed the command and defeated Abdali's forces. Abdali returned to Afghanistan with war bounty and Mir Mannu was now all-powerful warlord of Mughal army. But Abdali would return to plunder Bharat time and again. Meanwhile encashing on the Abdali's attack, Sikhs had grouped into 12 Misls under the leadership of Nawab Kapur Singh to become a force to reckon with.
Mir Mannu was appointed the governor of Lahore in 1748. He appointed a sarabti Sikh Kaura Mal as his wazir.
Mauch to the dismay of Mir Mannu in March 1748 Abdali returned to attack again. While Mir Mannu was countering Abdali, Lahore was left unguarded. Sikh Khalsa army took advantage and ransacked Lahore to occupy it for a day but retreated when came to know that after defeating Abdali, Mir Mannu is coming back.
Mir Mannu orderd to confiscation of jagir issued to sikhs and sent armed columns to shoot Sikhs point balnk. Mir Mannu was furious but his wazir Diwan Kaura Mal advised restrain to keep good relations with Sikhs due to their economic and military importance due to persistent attacks of Abdali.
5. Return of Looter
In January 1751 Abdali returned again to plunder plains of north India. Mir Mannu countered Afghans outside Lahore. During this war Diwan Kaura Mal lost his life. Now Mir Mannu was alone without his most trusted advisor and only political link between him and sikhs.
Mannu's anger of Sikhs ransacking Lahore during previous attack of Abdali was still stocking up.
Sensing the situation Mir Mannu agreed for a treaty with Abdali by paying him a sum of 900,000 Rupees.
Abdali bypassed Lahore and revenue of four provinces of north India. Abdali returned but now Mir Mannu turned his attention to his proverbial bette noirs "The Sikhs".
6. The Butcher
This is the time when the army of Mir Mannu was going from house to house searching for Sikhs. Many of the Sikhs took shelter in jungles but some Sikhs who were living with their families in the cities and could not just leave right away or join any jathas. They were captured by the army and all were being sent to Lahore. Most of the prisoners were Sikh women and children.
Many of the old women were killed on the way because they were weak and could not walk for a long time. All of the Singhni's and their children were put in Lahore jail.
Another act of massacre by Adina Beg Khan on the occassion of Hola Mohalla in March 1753 at Anandpur Sahib, the holy city of Sikhs.
7. The Tyranny
At that time Sikh population was so small that it affected their numbers. A decade earlier, when similar thing had happened (governor had decided to kill all Sikhs) At that point people thought that all Sikhs are finished, but Bhai Gharjha Singh and Bhai Bota Singh came out of hiding and fought with Mughals, just to show them that Sikhs were far from finished.
Everyday muslims would come and taunt them by saying "where is your Khalsa now? They can't even come to rescue you. All of them have been killed by the army. So it is better for you to accept Islam and live a rich happy life." Singhnis never ever thought of leaving Sikhi. They kept reciting "Waheguru Dhan Guru Waheguru Waheguru". The sacrifice of the Khalsa women that was so great that it became a part of Daily Ardas.
Mir Mannu started deploying his terror tactics. First of all, he ordered that all Sikh women in Jails to be provided with specially made mill stones to be three times heavier (1 1/4 Mann) than normal (a flour grinding instrument named Chakki). Sikh women would happily sing the Shabads of Nanak and grind flour the whole day but did not accept conversion to islam as the condition for their freedom.
Every woman was given forty pounds of grain to grind for each day in jail. A very heavy stone was placed on the chest of those who could not grind. They were given just a bowl of water and a quarter of a piece of bread to eat in a single day.
8. The DEBAUCHERY
When Mir Mannu saw the resilience of Sikh women unbroken and unshakable, his henchmen then started killing the innocent children by throwing them up in the air and landing them on sharp spears. One soldier would throw a child up in the air and another soldier would spear the child before the child hit the ground. The dead bodies of these children were cut into pieces and the ladies were garlanded with those pieces. Pieces of flesh of the children were thrust into the mouths of their mothers.
9. The Mass murder
Mir Mannu then ordered that all of the infant Sikhs who were with their mothers at the jail were to be executed immeadiately. Only those to be spared were those who converted to islam. More than 300 infant Sikhs were killed by Mughals and their dead bodies given back to their Khalsa mothers, not a single mother embraced Islam. The women's children were fixed on javelins before their very eyes. Their children were cut into pieces and garlands of those pieces were put around their mother's necks. But the faith of Sikh women was unshakable.
One of the women was very beautiful and Qazi wanted to marry her. He would come everyday and try to convince her to accept him but she never did. She had a son who was less than two years old. One day upon leaving, qazi gave orders to some of the army men to torture her and her son so she would give up her faith. One night the cruel animals (men) tied her up first and then started torturing her son.
The muslim soldiers hung her son upside down, took a knife and started to cut into his flesh from the neck all the way down to stomach. Singhni kept calm and kept praying "Guru Ji, Jaan Jayai par Dharam Na Jaayai". Then they slowly cut her son into pieces and he became shaheed. Then they started beating the Singhni with sticks and "chabuks". After a while the Singhni passed out. They hung her upside down and left. She stayed that way all night. In the morning they took her down but she was unable to get up and walk. She lay there by the wall, did Nitnem and then did ardaas:
"Sacchay Paatshah Ji, Saari Raat Aap De Bhanay tay Sukh Naal Beetee Hai. Aap ji da kotaan kot shukar hai, aap jee nay aapnee amanat vaapas lai layee hai. Aggay waastay vee bhanay vich chalan da uddam ball bakhsis karna. Daata Ji, praan jayai par Sikhi na jayai. Mehar karni"
Hearing this some of the guards were shocked and wondering what Sikhs were made up of? Some of the guards left their jobs by saying "These Sikhs are deeply religous and are not evil. We cannot torture these innocent souls. Even their women and children are so strong and brave. If they continue like this they will rule Punjab one day." Some of the fanatic muslims were enraged by this. They started to torture the woman again. A heavy weight was put on her body and her bones were crushed. They hit her with sticks. After so much torture she became shaheed but she never gave up her faith. The only words that came out of her mouth was "Waheguru Waheguru".
10. Mir Mannu
also known by hir original name Moin-ul-Mulk, died on 3 November 1753 after being thrown from his horse. This ended a reign of debauchery and tyranny, but it would continue after some time due to next invasion of Abdali when he ransacked entire north India and then by the East India Company!!
